Measurements of Radon Content in the Thermal Waters in Sakarya

چکیده
The paper presents the results of radon concentration measurements in thermal waters of Kuzuluk and Taraklı (Sakarya, Turkey) and their contribution to annual effective dose exposure. The radon measurements were performed using RAD 7, a solid state α detector, with RAD H2O accessory. The results show that the radon activities are within the range of 0.19–5.89 Bql−1 with an average value of 0.98 Bql−1. The associated annual effective doses have been estimated to range from 0.14 to 0.40 μSvy−1 for ingestion and from 1.81 to 5.14 μSvy−1for inhalation of radon released from the water. These values are significantly lower than the WHO recommended limit of 100 μSvy−1

Determination of 226Ra concentration in bottled mineral water and assessment of effective doses, a survey in Turkey
Background: There is a rapid increase worldwide in the consumption of mineral waters which may contain different level of radioactive elements, especially 226Ra, in addition to varying amounts of beneficial salts. Therefore, a comprehensive study was planned and carried out in order to determine concentration of 226Ra natural radionuclide in bottled mineral waters that commercially available in...

Background: The natural radioactivity level and the radon concentration of soil were measured at four important geothermal area located in Dikili geothermal region, Turkey. Materials and Methods: The natural radionuclide content of soil samples were measured by NaI(Tl) gamma spectrometer system and the soil radon concentration were determined using Kodak-Pethe LR-115 Type II Solid State Nuclear...
متن کاملInvestigation of the exposure to radon and progeny in the thermal spas of Loutraki (Attica-Greece): results from measurements and modelling.
Radon and progeny ((218)Po, (214)Pb, (214)Bi and (214)Po) in thermal spas are well known radioactive pollutants identified for additional radiation burden of patients due to the activity concentration peaks which appear during bath treatment or due to drinking of waters of high radon content. This burden affects additionally the working personnel of the spas. The present paper has focused on th...

Background: The aim of this study is to measure the level of radon gas in the thermal springs of the four seasons in the Black Sea Region and to determine the gamma activity levels in the soils around them. Materials and Methods: Indoor radon activity concentrations of four spa facilities, namely Ladik, Havza, Ilıcaköy, and Ayder, were measured using CR-39 passive radon dosimeters and active ra...
متن کاملComparative Measurements of Radon Concentration in Soil Using Passive and Active Methods in High Level Natural Radiation Area (HLNRA) of Ramsar
Background: Radon and its daughters are amongst the most important sources of natural exposure in the world. Soil is one of the significant sources of radon/thoron due to both radium and thorium so that the emanated thoron from it may cause increased uncertainties in radon measurements. Recently, a diffusion chamber has been designed and optimized for passive discriminative measurements of rado...
